My First Blog: Introducing StoolieBanks

Welcome to my first blog post! If you’re reading this, you’re likely related to me, one of my friends that I forced to read this, or someone I went to high school/college with and are curious what the hell I’m doing with my life. Whichever one you are, I welcome you with open arms. A big thank you to my day 1’s and a sincere “kick rocks” to my haters.

A little background on me and why I decided to start my own blog; I was born and raised in Austin, TX. I played sports every month of the year until I was a Sophomore in High School and realized that my genes weren’t cutting it, and watching ball on the couch was more of my cup of tea. Having my Saturday’s/Sunday’s back and the chance to stay up late enough to catch MACtion may have swayed my decision just a bit.

This is the moment I should have told myself, “Hey, maybe you should try this sports journalism thing. Your teachers claim you’re a great writer and you have one sole true passion. Why don’t we combine the two and run with it?” Unfortunately, my 16-year-old brain thought it’d be a better idea to give business a shot like my dad, my dad’s dad, and everyone’s dad before them.

I attended Texas State University once I graduated High School; Eat ’em up! I applied to 10 other schools, all in the SEC or Big 12. When I was a kid, I always dreamed of being one of the college kids I saw going ballistic at Allen Field House or Tiger field. Some would say I made another dumb decision and decided against those schools, and made the move to San Marcos, TX where the Bobcats ended my freshman year with a 2-10 record (1-7 in conference play!). The only school I applied to that didn’t have a bright football future. What hurts even more is that my second choice was LSU – if you can connect the dots, they had a pretty damn good team there for a good stretch. I think they may have a few current NFL players from that team. I don’t know, someone look it up for me.

If you ask me, I don’t regret a thing. Sure, I did not get that SEC college kid experience. But if you haven’t been to San Marcos, TX (or ever heard of it), I encourage you to give it a shot. I went there for the college town experience – I asked, and I sure did receive. Our football team was practically nonexistent when I attended, but we sure knew how to tailgate. Watch out for my Bobcats… generational recruiting classes and our first bowl appearance in program history in 2023! Exactly one year after I graduated, of course.

This brings us to the current chapter of my life, my late twenties. I’ve worked in sales post-graduation and enjoy it as much as the average Joe can. I just have greater passions and much bigger goals that I don’t see myself achieving in my current position in my career. I really hope this can turn into something that fuels my passion and helps me reach my goals. Worst case, if it ends up being a fun hobby, that’s cool too. If you’re a stoolie looking for Barstool content from a like-minded person or a casual sports fan, you’re in the right place. This blog is something I look forward to taking pride in and can’t wait for the journey. Thankful for anyone who supports me along the way.
